Pertaining to what? Possibly level 1-4 of fuel flow or rpm range? Possibly missfire at a certain range due to plugs but showing up as fueling problem?.... Which software?
I thought there were only 2. One being an over-rev beyond redline(BAD), the second being a rev up to redline(NORMAL).
Nope, according to a Porsche tech yesterday there are four - just not too many occurrences over 2. I have around 950 level 1 and one level 2. Each apparently is not a complete incident, but a single cylinder event... Or so the tech explained. He also said 3 and 4 were usually associated with downshifts that the rev limiter could not deal with. Level 4 seemed fairly catastrophic. He just did not have the exact descriptions at his fingertips.
That tech needs to go back to training. Your 996 has Range 1 and Range 2. Nothing more.
Our Range 1 is a rev limiter incident and Range 2 is a mechanical over-rev (i.e., missed down shift). As far as the exact number (RPM) that the system starts to record the Range 2 is something I do not know off hand.
Maybe he confused your car with a 997?
FYI.....the 997 actually breaks it down into 6 ranges with descriptions (very nice compared to our 996's)
range 1-RPM Range 7,300-7,500
range 2-RPM Range 7,500-7,700
range 3-RPM Range 7,700-7,900
range 4-RPM Range 7,900-8,400
range 5-RPM Range 8,400-9,500
range 6-RPM Range 9,500-11,000
