I got mine a year and a half ago CPO for 2 years - no luggage. 12,000 miles, 2 owners. It even had the pumpkins removed already. It was 45K so I paid more than I wanted, but it was just in such great condition with all records and still smelled brand new - and that 2 year warranty takes the worry away for potential IMS issues. I think the 40th is the best looking narrow body 996.

The only criticism I heard on other forums I belong to from having previous cars is "shouldn't have got chrome wheels" lol. I went from 99 Civic Si to 05 WRX STi to 08 Infinity G37 to the 40th.

The only issue so far I have had to had fixed under the CPO is the light switch - it would not turn on the fogs properly, and the parking lights (left or right) did not work properly - they replaced the switch and it was fine.

Yes, I have to agree I hate my chrome wheels. WTF were they thinking :/
But otherwise LOVE the car. I got mine in July and love it.

Yes, the rims are high polish/shot blasted -- looks chromed but no

Turbo Front End, better radiators (engine runs cooler than std carrera)
LSD, Sport Suspension, GT3 side skirts, X-51 etc.....
I'm half inclined to sell; half inclined to keep it in the stable.

The only problem I have with the 40th is now that I've looked at one, I want one. My original plan was to spend about $30K on a car and now I have to decide if I should spend the extra money on a 40th.

You can find an Arctic Silver base Carrera closer to 30K but not in GT Silver as
only the 40th Anniv and the Carrera GT share this color in pre-997 years. Arctic is a little more of a pale silver and is also a popular choice.

Funny. I went through the same exact thing, I was looking for a C4, seal gray, etc. Then I saw the 40th anniversary edition and I suddenly forgot about all the other features I wanted and even extended my budget a little bit to accommodate for it. I don't regret getting the 40th anniversary at all, I love that car.

I've seen a couple of them for sale in the last few weeks (not including the one you posted).

Good luck with your search.

The "chrome" wheels will grow on you as they are easy to clean and hide dirt well. They are even easy to mount/dismount if you do that type of work yourself.

It stinks that all of the luggage has disappeared off the face of the planet though.

If I could have found a decent condition '99 Aero with LSD I would have jumped on that because it would have been a lot less expensive. That being said I couldn't find one that wasn't too beat up for significantly less than I paid for mine, which was pretty cream puff. And the power package is definitely worth writing home over.

I'm considering selling or trading my 40th for a 997 cab (05 or 06) this spring or sooner if something comes up. What's a realistic private selling price. I see them on Ebay for 40+, but I think they're dreaming. My car has just under 60K, all maintenance up to date, new tires & H&R springs last summer. Replaced the stock stereo and amp/cd changer. Amp & CD changer died about 2 years ago. Still have the parts. Replaced front lip last summer too. Have both luggage pieces and the key holder.
No leaks no issues. All leather interior, no nav.

I too first looked at a regular 04 when I was first looking. Then I found a 40th. There was NO going back.

Anybody know how much the x51 engine costs in case the worst happens and you have to replace it?

I've heard a standard 996 is about $10K.

I like the design of the wheels, but it's too bad they they're not just painted silver. Otherwise the standard sport suspension and especially the power package is a nice bonus. The engine you get on the 40th has several rather extensive upgrades and it's nearly impossible to find a Carrera w/it otherwise.

That said, the repair costs on the eBay car alone would be significant -enough so that I would probably keep shopping. Good luck on the hunt.
