Default My First Mods

Had a pocket full of change, so I decided to make some minor modifications. Thanks to Jeff @ Sunset Imports for the assistance. Everything arrived in one box in 2 days!

- CD Storage - delete: now have storage cubby that should hold more than 4 CDs
- Smoke Package - delete: got rid of the ashtray. Don't know what I'll do with the ashtray light. The non-smoker tray is great for holding my Blackberry. I may be able to rig up another power outlet with the smoker tray light wiring I ended up putting in a plastic screw anchors into the holes to fasten the non-smoker package down, since the ashtray setup had locking ends.

- Pumpkins are gone: I must say, that the car looks much better with the clear side markers. Perfect match to my seal grey 996. I was getting some adjustments made to my OBC at Prestige in Denver, and got to spend an hour or so in the showroom. They had both pumpkins and clear on display. The sales guy said that the first thing he'd change on the exterior would be the pumpkins. It helped having the vehicles to compare, then after reading more on Rennlist, I had to agree. With the grey, they are sort of smoky already...

-Keys are recognized: using the memory seat function with the two keys is great. Nice to unlock the door after the wife has driven the car and have the seats & mirrors automatically get into position.
- Had OBC set to lock doors when driving (wife's concern - she doesn't want any strays being able to jump in when she's not around). I have a Canadian vehicle and the guages are Km. They couldn't set the fuel consumption to mile/gal, nor the mileage to empty settings to miles, so I'll have to learn the conversion factors. They reset from Canada to ROW setting.
-Hoist for hardtop: readjusted size (had a Mercedes 560SL prior to my 996) and the settings were different. I'm going to add a support strap or two so I can store the hardtop with the hoist, without having to worry about a steel cable snapping.

Next on my to do list (not to be confused with "Honey do" list) pending spare change availability are:
- Speaker upgrades: I have a rattle on the rear speakers, so I'll probably replace these first; also, the grill is busted on the passenger side rear, so I'll have to change these out. I think I identified a part from Suncoast that should work.
-Fire extinguisher: get car track ready for the spring
-Tires: don't know the age on mine, but replacement may be in order. They aren't squealing in turns and have tread left, but I have seen some small cracks in the grooves.
-Clay bar the car and polish / wax again. I may try this first on my wife's car since I haven't done it before.
-Condition the ragtop: I don't think it ever has been done. When it needs replacement, I may opt for the 2002 glass window in back.
-DrColorchip out the road rash, eradicating the little chips
-Hook up GDO: I've got two extra blank buttons on the dash under the PSM. I will use one of these for the garage door opener thanks to an idea from Suncoast
-Smartop chip: Will do this summer
-Manuell to Manual: still looking to change this setting on my climate control system...
-Interior trim: May switch to wood or aluminum. I have some aluminum trim already, so this may be the most logical choice.
-I'm in the process of setting up a model shoot with some of the other photog's in our local lingerie/swimsuit group. Hope to get some nice photos with my pcar later this spring. Stay tuned...
-Drive, drive, drive. Snow has melted off roadways here in Denver (mostly) and I have a couple of days until the next snowfall is expected. Temperature today will be 50F - almost springtime.

You're right, the clear side markers look great. That is going to be my first mod as well, thanks for the pics to tip me over on the decision. It's warm in Denver today, my car is happy.

Fullsize pics, better yet. Thanks. BTW, unusual but seriously cool two-tone look with the hard top.

Thanks, logger. I picked it up on CL locally for a ridiculously low price. Figure I can have it painted over the summer if necessary. I love the aerokit on yours. Red Brembos are awesome. I'm adding to my list.

BTW, Are you a local PCA member?

you can unplug the bulb and let the wire socket lay in the console opening,
and the yellow turn signals can be replaced with chrome bulbs (front and rear) and the clear side marker bulb can be replaced with a led or a xenon color normal bulb which will match the headlight color, You can find bulbs on ebay

Yup.... It all starts with this mod, when you put the on the SSK then there's no turning back. Be prepared to start shipping stuff to your work address.

OK, thanks for the tips here. I have all the necessary tools. Just need to get some chrome xenons and the guts to start soldering my amber pieces away. One of these nights, I'll pull off the headlight assembly and inspect to see what is required. I'm thinking a set of medical clamps might work better in place of the needle nose pliers as well. What do you think?

Hah! Great minds think alike. My wife is starting to pester me already. "Whad'ya get from Sunset in Oregon". I just need a credit card that she doesn't have access to.

Yes, the c.c.c. (covert credit card) rule, a subset of the Golden Rule (he who has the gold makes the rules). I live by it, but never speak of it; lest I sleep alone.

I have a offshore account that I stick $100 a week into. What she doesn't know won't hurt her
