I thought the US version was a riot last week, when they picked 3 GM clunkers to compete with. They tortured eachother like "freakin babies" (according to my wife, who also couldn't stop laughing), it was great.

I have not seen the last US Top gear yet, Rutledge really gets on my nerves. I have never liked Faust but he's better than Rutledge. Ferara is cool.
Just downloaded the UK Top gear special where they are in the US

I've seen the US show twice. Is Rutledge the bearded guy?

I actually find Faust was the only one bearable. Rutledge and Ferara know so little/nothing about cars and neither can drive worth a darn.

Ferara is amusing though...... Faust is just such a "smarmy" little bastard but I can at least put up with him on top gear. Those Supercar shows he did were beyond bad.

If you do not compare the US version with the UK one it's a pretty decent car show for the US to have. I hope it does well and comes into it's own.

I liked one of the Faust shows where he took a Mercedes sedan and hot date to the drag racing track and beat the hell out of it, that was cool to watch.

I'm still a Top Gear UK fan. Sure its contrived, but once you accept that it's hilarious. This special was one of the top 3 I've seen I think.

The US Top Gear though I found tough to watch. I don't mind Tanner and at least he can drive half way decent. The comedian guy held his hands at 11 and 1 on the SLS he was driving - what a loser. It's a car show goddamn it - at least try to develop some driving skill. The bearded guy I didn't recognize and don't care to. Ho hum presenting overall and that's what makes the UK show so good.

I was really annoyed too by how the US show copies the UK format so damn close.

Had to be cooler months when they went and would of been better if they spent the whole time racing across the countries instead of fiddling around.

This was a really well done special. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Yes, some bits are scripted, but not everything. Considering where they were and some of the things they had to do to get to their goal, some scripting is necessary. Also, most people don't know off the top of their head the political idiosyncrasies of the various countries.

As for the US show, I think they've screwed up with the hosts. These guys are terrible. The UK guys aren't particularly great drivers, but they're okay since they're all hosts, automotive journalists, and they have chemistry. The US has a professional drifter, a comedian, and a redneck with a beard. It's just bad.

I watched tonight's show and it was certainly better than it has been. They're developing a rapport, but it's still not quite there. TGUS just needs to clean house and get a trio of presenters who have talent. The guys are just terrible at reading their lines. At least when the TGUK guys are reading, it sounds more natural.

Tim Allen carried his interview where Rutledge just couldn't. They cut the two features too short. They should have done a shorter segment with a supercar and have me...er I mean The Stig drive it. Then spend more time on either the used car segment or the CR-V segment. Preferably the CR-V segment unless they planned on showing more of Tanner's models or Rutledge's BBQ girl.
