Default Getting my first bra tomorrow

OK, it's not really my first bra, I had one on Kermit, my 73 Targa. But I remember how my Lexus was pockmarked from the salt/sand mixture that they use in Chicago. Since my 996 looks really good, and there are only a few chips on the front, I decided to get a clear bra put on.

The plan is to cover the front bumper, front half of the hood, front fenders, mirrors, and the bottom of the rear bumper where the rear tires will spit gravel and sand at it. The pricetag is cheaper than I remembered, or maybe it's the slow season - $575. They are using a material from 3M called Venture - with a lifetime warranty.

They even have a product they use to cover a windshield - which I'll pass on. But they also have a material they use to cover the headlights. What do you guys think of that? Is it worth paying a bit more to cover the headlights? I don't know if that will keep them from yellowing, or just protects them from abrasions.

I've got the Venture shield on the 2001 I just picked up, and it works wonderfully. Not a single chip on the front end of the car. I didn't pay for it, but the records that came with the car show a price of $899 and a $220 discount for a sale price of $679.

You can't see it (which is the point right) but it is on there....

Larry, are you getting a "training bra" or have you developed enough to get a big girl bra?

Seriously, I like your plan, except I would do the entire hood, not just half. For an additional $100 (maybe?) you get full protection and one less "line" demarking where the bra ends.

In HS it was a question of how to take the bra off, and could you do it with one hand or two as I recall.

As I remember, I was pretty adept at the one handed release, but that was quite a few years ago. After being married for 40+ years, I'm more than a bit out of practice.

Their website gallery showed Lambo's, BMW 7series, Bentleys, Aston Martins, etc. I was confident that they knew what they were doing. They told me that it isn't unusual for an owner of one of these cars to ask for a complete wrap. They charge $2,000 for a full wrap. Can't imagine. A Plasticized Car!!! He said that he thought that he had done 1,000 Porsches. He said that they did a Carerra GT with a full wrap. It had less than 5,000 miles on it.

I am in a bit of a cash crunch right now, so the $575 price looked really good. Tim, you're right. They said that they would charge $100 more to do the entire hood. That was pushing me over my budget (there was a budget??) If I had known that they were only going to charge me $500 for the whole job, I would have had them do it. We'll see if the cash situation in the spring is better. Maybe then . . . . . . .

I shot a few pictures of my car when I got it home. It's snowy in Chicago, and I wanted to get the bra on before I hit too much snow/salt/sand this winter.

Damn, after reading the title of this thread I though the price of these cars have dropped to the point that 16 year old girls were now purchasing them. LOL

I am having a really hard time thinking how I can inject some comment about getting out to the track, but HEY - I know.....

now with the front protected you can go out to the track and not worry about chips

Pete, I can't imagine what ever on earth you could be thinking

anybody looked at the spray-on bra option? It's basically a heavy clearcoat (high quality) sprayed on as a normal clear would be. Any dings after application are simply lightly sanded and re-sprayed. A guy here in Denver claims all the quality of a factory clear coat and very easy and inexpensive chip and ding repair. It is about $800 for the front end of my 996. It is completely undetectable visually and is guaranteed not to yellow or cloud. Seems like a reasonable option...

I seem to remember a type of spray on bra option that was intended to be temporary, for use during track events (or the like) and then it would be removed for civilian use.
