Barn & others with Carrera on Snow tires? What tires do you have - and sizes? I have been considering Snow/Ice tires for my C 4 and Tire Rack only shows one type in the 17 inch sizes 205/255 fitment. These are N Spec tires and way to expensive for 3 months use. I was wonder if I can use 205/50 and 245/45 Michelin X-Ice. I have these on my Audi and they are amazing - but not offered in a 255/40. Any suggestions?

I could only find one size of tire for my 996 in a 17" wheel. It was the Pirelli Winter 240 SnowSport. This isn't a snow and ice tire like the Blizzak or the Michelin X-Ice, it's a performance winter tire. That is the only fitment available for the Porsche 17" wheel. A set of 4 is $676.00. If you go to an 18" wheel, you can get into a Blizzak or a Michelin X-Ice - but those are a bit more expensive. A set of 4 will set you back $836.

I had always heard that the smaller wheel is better for winter traction, so I went with a wheel and tire package for the 17's. Actually, I got a great deal. Bought a set of 6 winter tires and 4 wheels from a Rennlister for just over $900 including shipping.

Yes, I've been racing Masters for a long time, and running the program here in the Rockies for the past 10 years. Passion or obsession?! Kinda like a P-car.

Yes, yes, yes, back in 2008 and maybe even 2009, Bridgestone built the Blizzak in both a 205/50R17 and 255/40R17. And, there are 11 different models of winter performance tires or studless winter tires in the 205/50R17 size. BUT, and it's a BIG BUT, there now is only one winter tire made in a 255/40R17 - that's the Pirelli Winter SnowSport tire. If you are going to use the same tire front and rear, on a Porsche, in a 17" size, you're stuck with the Pirelli - it certainly wasn't my first choice. My first choices would have been studless snow tires. But it wasn't available.

I feel like I should be putting snow tires on my cars. It's supposed to be 32 tonight. For tomorrows morning walk I had to dig out the dog jacket for the ***** footer Boston Terrier we have. A couple days ago he looked like he was having a seizure when I stopped both of them to adjust his collar.

All my cars have summer tires. We'll see how the A4 Quatto does in the clay pit I'm going to tomorrow.
