That's interesting. I've seen a wrecked aerokit car, and the bottom of the decklid was certainly some sort of a composite. If yours has a 996 part # (which I assume it does since you've got the made in France marking), it has to be factory. Is the aerokit on the factory option list under the trunk lid?

Yes the option is part of the list on the trunk lid. The aero deck lid is around $7K - 8K new. We will see what the damage is next week when I take to body shop.

you must choose wisely - I did my homework and in the end was NOT happy with my shop. The actual body guys were top of the game, the painter A+ but they had a monkey on a buffer who F'd up the entire deal...... and a manager who's face changed AFTER delivery was made... never made it right with me.

Sorry for the misfortune Pete. I have a stock deck lid from a 2000 996 C2 that's been for sale for a while on evilBay. It will of course need paint to match. Email me at mglobe@swbell.net if you have any interest in it.

So today is the 1st day with a 11K mile Chevy Impala rental while the Pcar goes in for surgery...I do have it at a very reputable place and they specialize in the high end cars. I have no idea what the bill will be but its really not my worry except when I want to sell the car...the fix will show up on carfax. The shop and the adjuster agreed to meet and inspect the car at the same time. They plan on taking the rear body apart while everyone is there to see the extent of the damage. Honestly it does not look bad from the outside except for a good spot of cracked paint the size of my hand. So we will see...keep y'all posted.

To Mike- Thanks for the invite on your C2 decklid....I have the areokit..
