Default Oil change in 10 minutes - a DIY

I took some video while I changed my oil sunday. I thought people would like to see it - especially those on the fence about tackling some of these simple DIY projects.

I even show how to open up the filter and look for metal bits!

Sorry if the editing is a little jumpy - I had to trim out anything that wasn't important to get it to fit the YouTube 10 minute limit.

what was the real time spent?

minus beer breaks of course

how many miles on that oil, looked pretty black.
Alos NICE to have a lift and BIG drain bucket, this is just as easy on the garage floor, but w/o the big catch bin can make a bit of a mess.

Nice work. One of the easiest thing you can do on these cars.

Total cost:
10 liters (will probably only need 8.5-9) at $5-7/ea...$50-70
1 filter $10-15

**if you don't have the filter removal tool you need to buy one as a one time nvestment**
Oil FIlter Cover removal tool $10-40 (generic to OEM)

I spent about an hour on it. I let it drain for 30 minutes or so - that's when I drank the beer.

A lot of miles on that oil - about 8,000.

Glad you guys like it!

I think I'll change the spark plugs some time this winter - they've been in for 35k miles. If/when I do, I'll make a video about that, too.

There just isn't enough data on the importance of the beer. There is a symbiotic relationship we share when we upgrade the fluids in the car and the fluids in our body.

You don't even need to do that. Most garages have a lip that is raised from the driveway. If you have a garage, just back the car out until the rear wheels are about 2" from the lip. The driveway will be lower than the garage floor which will give you enough room to remove the drain plug and remove the oil filter canister.

If that doesn't work, get a couple of 2" X 10" and drive the rear wheels on them to elevate the car a little.
