You could ask the battery store to check your battery for you. Check the age of your battery.. They should last about 5 years. It should have a sticker on it somewhere. Or even before you do that, put it on an overnight charge. Hold your ingnition full on to the right (your charger will show 10) then fully depress the clutch and the starter should come in as you hold your foot down on the clutch and then slowley go to 14 when the revs come in. Then if all that fails, it must be the clutch switch if you still think that the ingnition switch is not at fault.

If you have 10v with no load you are dead. Even under light load you should still be really close to 12v or tiny bit more. Its a good rule, if any battery while not under load does not read OVER its voltage you have a dead battery.

I need help:
Every time I try starting my car 997, I get the depress clutch message. I read the comments so I know what is wrong. My question is: do I need to disconnect the battery to change the micro- switch and can someone guide me on how to do replace it, step by step.
thank you,

Just disconnect the two wires on the switch, remove the screw and swap the new switch in. Note the screw hole on the switch is elongated so you can adjust the switch a bit to make sure the switch is tripped when the clutch is depressed completely.

At the risk of aggravating the forum let me pile on one quick question. My 996 exhibits this behavior after a stall and there is an odd ritual that I need to do to get the car to start again. I was originally thinking the ignition switch (although I have no other discernible problems). Any other thoughts?

The technology for testing doubtful batteries has changed - way beyond the old load testers and VOM. Same with battery chargers/trickle chargers. Without these new pieces of equipment it is unlikely that a quickest & most accurate diagnosis can be made.
For example - make sure the new Tester has an S.O.C. readout
- and the charger a de-sulfation ability.
The Search here is useful to find notorious ,common problems like:
-the "Y" connection in the wiring that corrodes
-the battery cables that corrode
In both cases the corrosion/high resistance is hidden beneath the insulation
Check also for parasitic discharge.
