How did you strip the soft touch material on the console?

1. I used 600 grit wet sand to get all soft touch off, pain.
2. Prime and sand with 1000 grit. Get it smooth for base coat will not hide anything.
3. Use HVLP gun to spray 3 coats of base color.
Use max pressure for gun 50-60lb. Gun tip will be at 10lb.
4. Spray 3 coats of clear.
5. You can use 1500-2000 grit wet sand for overspray or runs or smoothing.

I think that it looks great, you did a wonderful job.

I have the same wood upgrade. I have a hard time believing that it's a $4,000 upgrade, but my window sticker confirmed it. My center console horseshoe (around the dash vents, etc) is all cracked. If you can figure out how to get yours off without breaking it, I'll buy it from you.

As an alternative, I was thinking of buying a new horseshoe in silver (aluminum) and complimenting it with aluminum bezels for the gauges.

Getting too cold to paint, but I am planning to sell the wood up grade as a complete set.

Pictures show the wood more than actual. The wood is very dark, almost looks black. The Porsche is garaged most of the winter and will be doing some mechanical work. Will be looking to do some more silver upgrades in the spring.

So, why did I start painting this fall?
This summer I was stopped at a red light with the top down,
when a Lexus SUV bumped me from behind.
Two kids in the SUV with woman driver and the ... iPhone….

Damage: Lexus plate imprinted on my bumper. This 996 was completely
original with no paint work. I wanted to get as close to the original as
possible. Used a new OEM bumper from suncoast. I have about 6 coats of base color and 7 coats of clear. Sanding
between coats with 1500 – 2000 grit sand paper. It looks very smooth ….
