Making some mods -- now with cup holder

One is thru a reprogram which depending on how they decide to police the Spec 996 control units this could cause issues in tech.
The other is removing it and doing some rewiring.
Both of these have already been done.

Three Wheelin'
The reprogram is out... Unless I wanted to start running Prepared.
I have been looking at the wiring as a possible solution... If someone has already tested hose waters, I would be eager too hear the direction that the traveled.

It's always tough to make comparisons when you make changes because of changes in air and track surface temperatures, not to mention the size of of my attachments on any particular day. All that said... the car certainly seemed a bit faster.

Mike made a number of little subtle changes to the car, less weight, cup holder, new rear glass, etc etc so it would be hard to notice the difference between each change and the combined change. Bottom line is less weight must be faster.

Reprogram is obviously the easiest to do, but also understandably not an option for those racing "stock" or "spec" classes.
Rewire is somewhat simple although I forgot the specifics on it now because I (atleast for me personally) determined it to be not worth the trouble that it was. Basically the alarm system is looking for a value, give it the right value when it wants it and disable system.
JR Gorden may have deleted it from his car more recently when doing a rewire for lightweight in his car, maybe he will chime in on it. John .........
For what it's worth the control units rarely go bad unless water is introduced, and it's not that big a hassle to do. The real only downside to having it is if you need to replace the key and then the expense of that. So my recommendation is keep the system, relocate the control unit to a safer, less likely to get wet area and forget about it.
Hope that helps,

Ha! Ok, how about this:
This car fecking ROCKS!
The changes I've documented here are the final development of this car, and so are incremental to what I've been doing over the past two years. As a result, the performance improvement is also incremental. But the cumulative improvement from overall weight reduction (~500lbs I think), the cage, suspension, and aero upgrades is significant. This car, with a stock 3.4l engine making 300hp at the crank, can blow the doors off of any stock NA 911 short of the later year GT3's. And I'm not so sure that with the same driver, it can't beat a late model GT3 on some race tracks.
Spec996 race cars are pretty quick.
