Honestly, I find the narrow body coupe to be the least appealing of all the 911s....you asked!

I have both so I try to be impartial. I guess I prefer the more aggressive Turbo look (it might be the boy racer gene), but it's not a landslide vote for me, more of a 55/45 thing. The look of the turbo from the backside sways my vote.

I'm also a nut for ALL varietyies of Pcars and can appreciate what each brings to the party!

I was after the classic simple lines of the 993 narrow body C2 when I bought my car (it was/is newer and more comfy and faster for nearly the same $$). The Turbo and C4S are plenty nice looking though.

I don't have anything against the widebody cars and could potentially own one some day, but I truly like the shape of my narrowbody car. My "plain" C4 always reminds me of a newer version of this, which I find to be absolutely beautiful.

But the fact that the scoops are functional make up for it.

My take is that the narrow body looks better looking straight on at the back but the wide body looks cool coming towards a bystanderor on an angle.

Cool

When it comes to 996 and 997 street cars, my preference is for narrow bodies.
Why carry all that extra weight for nothing?

Just my opinion.

Curious how much extra weight between a C4 and a C4S?

I think the OP was feeling quite a bit of insecurity and doubt, and he stirred the pot. My opinion is that they all look great. I happen to think the C4S is the best looking of the 996 model lineup, but that's my opinion. I'm not trying to build some kind of consensus to make me feel better about my choice, I don't have any insecurity at all. If you don't like the looks of the turbo of the C4S, that's fine... don't buy one. If I buy another 996, I'll most likely pick a C4S again. I see no need to attempt to point out why the narrow body isn't as attractive.

Threads like this serve no purpose other than getting people angry and defensive.

I am not insecure and I don't doubt my opinion at all.

I just see how everybody (especially the guys who own one) praises the beauty of wide body and for me it just looks simply overdone.

How insecure or doubtful is it?

I think just the opposite might be true; those who defend the WB superior looks without giving the good reason for it just follow the majority crowd and hence possibly they feel insecure and aggressive.

Those "boy racer gaping holes" provide more airflow to the radiators. And those "out of proportion rear quarters with multiple slots" provide an exit for airflow through the intercoolers (cosmetic for the C4S, however).

Personally, the 993 is what got me liking Porsches, with the curves and hips. Unfortunately, the 993 is not the correct economical decision for me. To me, the narrow body 996 has a bland front-end (along w/ no hips).

If it helps explain it, then I also happen to like the front-end of the Ferrari 360, Ferrari 430, Lamborghini Gallardo, and Lamborghini Murcielago with their "boy racer gaping holes" as well.

The 997 brings back the fender flares that the 993 has and I would see myself owning a narrowbody 997.

I hope those are good enough reasons for you, which is basically function over form. The form just also happens to be more appealling to me.

Well said Michael.

To the OP, the reason that you appear to be so insecure is because the approach that you take in attempting to praise the narrow-body cars is to bash the others. How do you expect people who prefer those cars to respond? You seem to be doubtful of your decision because of your negative comments about the others.

If you perfer the narrow-body cars, that's great! They are great looking cars. Saying negative things about the others won't change anybody's opinion of the wide-body cars, it will cause them to form a negative opinion of you.

We don't all have to like the same thing. It's okay if you prefer narrow-body cars and others don't.
