Default Got a CEL with code P2098

I had a meeting in Atlanta last week so instead of flying I decided to drive there.

The drive was uneventful and more pleasant than flying but one morning as driving into the office I got a CEL light that came on. What was unusual is that the car felt fine but I was cautious so I parked it and worked the entire day. I figured it was a glitch and should hopefully clear up by the time I started it back up.

Unfortunately it did not.

So off to the nearest AutoZone I go and have them read the code. I find that it's a P2098 which doesn't seem to come up often. On my Blackberry I log in to RL and Renntech and find that the code is either O2 sensor or MAF related.

I cross my fingers and hope it's the latter so I purchase some MAF spray and the tamper-proof torx bits and get to work. Fortunately it takes seconds to remove the MAF and a few more to spray it down.

I then let it dry out for a little while, put it all back together and wish myself some good luck for when I turn the key.

Fortunately for me the CEL went out and all seems well again.

So did I actually address the problem or did I somehow just mask it? Should I expect to change something out here in the near future?

P2098 - Signal Delay Time for Oxygen Sensor Ageing, Bank 2 - Above Limit

Not quite sure what that means, but it would seem to be related to the oxygen sensor rather than the MAF. If it has cleared I would wait and see if it appears again.

Never hurts to clean the MAF though.

In many of the posts I read elsewhere it said that often the codes only give you clues but not always the right diagnosis.

But yeah, I'll keep an eye out for it and see if it comes up again.

Thanks!

Did the CEL go out as soon as you reinstalled the MAF sensor, or did you have to drive the car a while before it went out?

Once I restarted the car after putting everything together the light was out.
