Can't open the front hood!

Hi guys,
A mate of mine has an 08 2S, and the front hood won't open.
Is there any secret handle or pull cord somewhere? I did try a search!
As for him reading the book, I don't know. Thought I'd ask here first.

There is a cable behind the left front wheel liner. At least its on the left is the US. The only bad thing would be if the tool kit with the wheel lock is in there...

you can get to it (barely, and if you are lucky!) without removing the wheel... and then can reroute the cable to a reachable spot nestled in the front bumper's radiator opening...
