PSE Surprise
so my Fister D's arrived yesterday and it was raining today...soooooo, what to do on a wet day ?? Install the new cans of course !! Now, keep in mind that the first time I took my car to my indy, I asked if I had by-pass pipes on (because I knew that my car didn't sound like the others). He quickly looked up and say ya the hack has been done. Fast forward two years and I have a rattle in my cans...no problem, all the Rennlister speak highly of Fister D's so I put in my order. They come and it's time to put them in...some claim it can be done in a less then a couple hours, great - today's the day. Get the 5 nuts off (with some effort) and I start yankin...hmmm, me thinks...it's supposed to be easier then this. I get the first muffler out only to find a full PSE setup (smaller down pipe, valves at the top, vacuum lines into the engine bay....only thing missing seems to be the dash switch.)
So my question to all you knowledgable encyclopedias out there (as yes, I've searched to no avail)....what do I do with the 2 vacuum lines and electrical lines ??? I'm assuming that I can just leave the wires as is. But the vacuum lines.... Pull them off at the Y connector and just cap it off ? tuck them up and leave them stowed away with the ends open? will this cause a CEL ?
Anxiously awaiting your thoughts....
Another weird thing....there was a metal label tacked on the side of the can and on the bottom of the tip - Eisenmann. Can't say as I've ever heard of them before.

do a search on Rentech, you can get the full parts list on the pse system.... it consists of wiring harness, relays, vacuum lines and tank, solenoid valves and a switch..... I love the switch to open/close the exhaust, it really comes in handy and worth every effort to the install. It also makes sure that the butterfly valve does not rot when you stroke it open/close..... it is because of this valve that makes this exhaust cost over $5k today.... crazy! I dont know why very few installl the electronics.... it is such a great setup. ebay has the parts once in awhile.... here is the cable for it. The PSE sounds great when opened up..... but when you had enough and want to talk to a passenger.... just press the switch, priceless.
BTW, you can just cap off those vac lines mounted on the PSE, they wont do anything if it is not mounted on the engine vac sys with no cel.

you had PSE and didnt know it?
hmmmm
is there a button on the dash??
what indy said "you have a hacked system"
the PSE's even with a rattle should be worth something to someone... dont just toss them out, give them away to a fellow RL or maybe try and get a couple $ for them. I get it that you want the Fister's and Ferd's link will help you install them - plus hit Renntech

I knew that I had some sort of non-stock exhaust...2 years ago when I was in for a new clutch and the car was on the lift, I asked, he gave it the quick look and said ya you have the hack....I left it at that. No, no dash switch. So, based on all that I decided to go with the Fisters. One side is done....the passenger side is giving me some grief so I'm letting the WD40 soak in before all my knuckles are bare and raw !
Thanks Ferd...I'm going to leave all the plumbing intact and just cap off the ends...who knows, I might go back to PSE next time around.

Mine is the same setup. More than likely it was installed after the car was purchased. So mine is always loud but I'm okay with that. It isn't that intrusive if you maintain steady throttle.

I'd try the buttons for the rear windows that don't do anything unless its a cab. I also wonder if you could play a game of having a couple of the seat memory buttons as valves open and valves shut.
I don't know a lot of stuff Is there any switch in the windshield washers control for the push it forward? The lever can be sprung forward but it doesn't do anything. Maybe the valves are activated with the doors lock button. Looks like both of us don't know for sure

If a PSE w/o button (= "aftermarket" installation ) is always loud, it means that one or both vacuum lines to actuators are continiously open, ie cut or slipped from connections. Mine were melted, the installer had used too short braided teflon lines from actuators. I replaced them with longer ones. After that they worked as designed, until replacement...

"Special Exhaust Button!!"
Attached is a zoomed-out picture of the PSE button (to better show where it's located). The photo was taken and labeled by the prev. owner.
A factory PSE setup is normally on (i.e, open valves, i.e., loud) when the engine is started. In this mode, the amber LED on the switch is not lit.
When you press the switch, the LED lights up and the exhaust note is a teeny bit quieter.

I've just received a pair of modified silencers and am about to look into fitting them,I assumed I would have to remove the rear bumper,is that the case? If I don't have to and the job only takes a couple of hours I'll be pleased, any advice would be gratefully received, thanks.

Apparently you don't have to remove the rear bumper, but I did when I installed mine.

modified silencers? mufflers?
no need to remove bumper, get the a$$ up plenty high so you dont have to re-intall, jack it up higher then remove a second time (ask me how I know)

Thanks for the reply Dennis,I've since found your previous comments about whether to remove or not.I will probably try the lazy option, fail miserably, then remove the bumper.I always learn the hard way.
