Does anyone have a good DIY for either the OEM kit or B&M kit? Any help with pictures of any known videos would be greatly apprecitated. Thanks in advance.

I have done the DIY. It really is straight forward following the instructions that is at the B&M site. Just pay attention when it says to "skip these steps if you have a Boxster".
Good Luck!

Thanks Marc, looks pretty straight forward. Would you recommend the B&M kit and cutting the bushings vs. the OEM drop in? I happen to be in North Jersey today, nasty storm last night!!

+1 on the B&M instructions, I followed it line-by-line and everything worked perfectly. Like you, I had some reservations about the cable adjustments and also the notchiness of the SSK, so I decided to go with the OEM 997 shifter that came with the alignment tool. All I had to do is remove the old 996-shifter and drop-in the 997 one in. Both cables were perfectly aligned "out-of-the-box" and all I had to do was reconnect them to the new shifter. Now the gear change is more direct, super-robust-feel and smooth. Sure it's not very short shifting but still a great improvement compared to the old 996-shifter which was notchy and noisy. Good-luck with the swap and let us know if you need any help...

Pete, without having it to look at, where should I be marking? From looking at the directions, doesn't specify and exact mark? Just a mark below each plastic casing on the cable? Once I have it to look at it'll make sense, but trying to grasp.

So the cable runs into a plastic housing of some sort. Use the beginning of the plastic housing as your straight edge for using the black marker. When you have the cable out and than are re-attaching it, the black mark you made should line up at the same point where you made the mark to begin with. It really is a reference guide to show you where the cable was originally. If it does not line exaclty..say the mark is further away now....just adjust the cable by twisting (screwing ) in or out. Hope that helps.
