Default 99 Cabriolet Top issues

So I am new, and learning a lot from the forum, so I will thank everyone in advance. I am looking at a 99 C4 Cab, but apparently the soft top has an issue with the window. I dont know yet if it is just a problem with the window, or with the entire top. I should know soon, but I am curious if it is just the window, can it be replaced, or do you replace the entire top? Would the original have been glass, or plastic?

This particular car seems to have a lot of options, including a lot of the leather, and the fancy DSP stereo system. If I do make an offer, I want to take into account what the cost might be for repair or replacement.

Thanks again,

-Mark

Do a search. Assuming the window is separating from the top. It's $700 to have it repaired or you can try it yourself. There was a DIY posted here a few weeks ago. I re-glued mine but did not stitch it )the proper way) so I'm just trying to buy some time.

A good top shop can sew in a new window inexpensively.

The original window was plastic. If you are keeping the canvas top, you can have just the window replaced with a new plastic window for about $800, which is mostly labor. To sew in a new window properly, they need to remove the convertible top.

A whole new top with a plastic window will run $1500 installed (GAHH brand). You can also replace the whole top, and opt for a (smaller) glass window (also by GAHH), which is about $800 more than the standard plastic-window top.

The final option is to repair the existing plastic window in place. I opted for the DIY fix, which was cheap, but time consuming. Perhaps you can find an upholstery shop to fix it in-place. If the window is delaminating just a bit, and you are going to try a repair in-place, do it right away, because it will get worse quickly.

Here's my DIY writeup: LINK

Good luck. Post some pics if you get them

Frisbee, I used your method to glue but the sewing was looking terrible after a few stitches so I dropped that leg of the project. I'm just going to try and buy a year or two with glue only and eventually replace the top.
Thanks for your DIY post
