Cool 12 years, 60,000 miles

Just 3 months short of twelve years, I rolled over 60,000 miles today.

Original RMS. Original IMS.

Looking forward to taking these shots again 40,000 miles from now. (99,996 will be fun).

Nice job. But you've got some serious driving to do to catch up to this Boxster owner, which you can read about here

Shopped

1. Exactly 200,000 miles on odometer
2. Exactly 20.0 miles on the trip odometer
3. Exactly 20.0 miles per hour (with the Cruise control on)
4. Exactly 2:00 pm.
5. Exactly 2000 rpm.

Really, it's not a photoshop job as the owner is a well respected Boxster owner in Florida. It does, however, take quite a bit of planning.

Here's some additional info for those not wanting to follow the link...
He had a porous block engine which was replaced by Porsche at 23,000 miles.
Of the 200,000 miles on the odometer 18,000 have been hard track miles, all on the "new engine".
I recently (at 196K) replaced the clutch for the first time, put in a new rear main seal and did the intermediate shaft retrofit as well as a the master and slave cylinders for the hydraulic system.
I have used 18 sets of rear street tires and 11 sets of fronts.
I've also gone through 9 sets of track tires.
I can't keep up with how many brake rotors and pads I've replaced (because I swap pads at the track).
Oh, and I've done 38 oil and oil filter changes and 49 brake/clutch flushes.
I've never replaced a wheel bearing or a suspension component (except the lowering springs) and the coolant reservoir is the original one.

Never received one when I joined two years ago, and didn't get one when I renewed last month for two more years. But if one comes my way, and it is small enough to fit, then it will certainly grace that window.

Regarding the 200K Boxster, I have every hope and desire to some day match his number and post it here.
This is my 4th 996 and I didn't get this particular one until March of 2005. It had only 6750 miles on it then. So although the 12 year average is only 5k, I have averaged over 10k per year since I bought it. Also, it became my sole daily driver about 6 months ago so it should be racking up the miles pretty heavily over the next few years.

Could it be photoshopped? Sure. But if you think about it, it wasn't that difficult to get them all lines up like that.

You know that odometer is about to hit 200000 so with mile 199980 you reset the trip computer. Then you drive it to 200000 on the button and then stop. Set the speed gong (which is what the 20 > mph is) and set the clock to 2:00 and then drive up to 20 mph and take the snap. The only snag is the RPM but if you can't match it you can rev/clutch to get 2K rpm. But with enough foresight you can easily figure out what it take to do 20mph at 2Krpm.

So is it photoshopped? I don't think so. But it sure did take some OCD work to get it just right.

A real OCD master would have gotten the temps up to 200 degrees and made sure the gas tank was at exactly 2/4.

Pedro mentioned that someone had made that same comment on another site And, based on the cruise control being on I'm guessing it was to to 20 MPH in 2nd gear.

The light on indicates that cruise was ready, not necessarily engaged... I don't know if you can use cruise at 20mph, there's a minimum speed for it, which I thought was above 20?

We're really nitpicking here, but yeah...

Picking nits... isn't that what happens around here?

You're actually correct on both points now that I think about it. I seem to recall that it couldn't be set lower than 35 MPH? I wonder if it can then be lowered to less than that value? Perhaps I'll give it a try later today.

Cool

So, since we are talking about high mileage Boxsters, and low speed cruise control settings, I'll tell a quick story about my visit to the dealership yesterday afternoon.

Things were a bit slow in the sales department, so I gathered all the salesmen around to give them some training. I selected a Guards Red 997 coupe, opened the drivers door, and showed them the beer bottle opener installed on every late model 911 series car.
