My 99' 996 has code 220-locking diff., and code 222-traction control if that helps.

I don't think so. M219 is just differential code. 220 is the LSD code and they only came as an option on MY 99 and 04.

Here are M codes that were available for 996 models for diff's. I'm not sure why the M219 is listed as an 'option' as all cars have a differential but not all have the ZF type or newer LSD's.

M219 Optional differential
M220 Locking differential (40%)
M221 Porsche locking differential
M222 Traction control system
M224 Automatic limited slip differential (active brake differential)

Cool

M219 is an "optional differential" because there are normally several different "standard" differentials to pick from when assembling a new car at the Porsche factory, with different gear ratios and/or final drive ratios, depending on what country the car is being sent to, and the specific model. Probably anything that varies from standard delivery in Germany is considered "optional."
