Default Hardtop Plastic Inserts

According to the owners manual there are two plastic inserts to put in before you place the top on. They go where the two plugs are in on the rear of the interior. I do not seems to have these inserts. Would anyone happen to know the part number for these pieces so I can purchase them before installing my top. T Thank you.

You might be confused - the two plastic discs are used when your hardtop is NOT installed. They basically cover up the install holes where the metal pins on the hard top attach to the car. You can get them at any dealer for cheap.

Interesting. I have a 99 Cab and I've never seen these plastic protectors. It is probably a good idea though as it keeps the pins from damaging the canvas around the receiving holes. My car has a few scars in that area from the PO not being careful when they put the hardtop on.

Never seen "J" before and my CAB top works perfectly without them. Have no idea what they are for. Says protection?

I have them for my 03 cab. They are to protect the area just behind the mount holes from possible damage caused by the top pins hitting the canvas cover.
If you are very careful when mounting the top you won't need them. When you take the top off they make it hard to put the hole plugs in so you take them off and save them, or toss them over your shoulder.
Look in your seatback pockets if you have them. Some folks stash them there, that is where I found mine.
I keep mine in a plastic bag with the top when it is off. i just toss them onto the shelf by the window so I know where to look next time.

The little halfmoon things (J in the drawing) carry a part number of 996.563.421.01

They are a deliverable with every hardtop, and should be placed down in their position prior to mating the top to the car. These were introduced several years into the 996 production when they discovered that owners could damage the canvas fabric near the holes.

Oh WOW, I did see those things before but did not know what they are for... I need to go back and look for them somewhere in the garage, I may still have them. But so far, I have no issue without them neither, interesting part indeed.

The only issue is if the hardtop pins hit the canvas behind/on the edge of the mounting hole and damage it when you are putting the top on or taking it off.

Just picked up the inserts from my local dealer, and installed my hardtop for the season. Gee, those little critters really do help avoid damage from the turn-pins.

Thanks to Edgy01 for the part #.

Relinuca- I see you are from Jax also, so I guess you got these from Brumos. Mind me asking what they run? I just got a hard top for my car and would like to get a pair as long as they are priced like little pieces of plastic. Not always the case with Porsche parts.

Thanks- John

$8.00 I can afford and hope that I get them before I scratch that area.
