Auto-x is fun until you do a track event. Then you will wonder why you wasted your time on AX.

NNJR has loaner helmets. Make sure to ask ahead of time. You may want to invest in a balacava.

In many ways, an autox is a more intense than a DE. Although the speeds are higher in a DE, you don't have the luxury of straights to take your time to set up for the next turn.

It is one turn after the other and the challenge of seeing your route through a sea of cones. There are few other places you can take your car to--and beyond--its limit of adhesion so safely. A very good way to learn what your car and and can't do. The skills you learn are directly applicable to accident avoidance on the local streets and highways--moreso than DE's.

Yep...tire wear is a consequence. But note that if you can learn to drive smoothly, you experience faster times and less tire wear.

I agree with that. I started in AutoX about 7 years ago. I really learned how quick things can happen and how the car can really make your head spin. The knowledge from AX led me to DE's. I also went t o DE's because of 6 minutes of drive time compared to 25 minute stints at a DE. Also learned 2 more things..

1. The car can do it..its the driver that needs to learn.
2. Your a$$ (literally) starts to get ESP. You need to trust it.

Thanks, guys. Hopefully I will come out of this with better understanding of the car. The next autox for my region is Oct 10. Can't wait.
