I have a Shoei for my sportbike but from trying on tons of different helmets, Arai hands down is the most comfortable.
I wished I would of bought an Arai instead but the one I wanted was $1000 at the time! Too much.

Simpson Full Face. I also have a Simpson open face.
I have a large head and Simpson seems to fit better than Shoei. I believe Bell also runs larger like Simpson (wider)

It depends on the track/event/region as to whether an SM2005 is accepted or not. Especially when it comes to short and slower autocross events where the motorcycle helmet is an acceptable solution.

PCA regions accept SA or Sm helmets for DE and Auto X.
I use a Simpson open face SA. The Bells have a distinctive egg shape which when worn in a car with racing buckets like GT3 seats, forces your head forward in a chin down position. Not good.

Like most things, check the rulebook! As mentioned, Helmets are rated. Typically an M rating for "motorcycle" helment and others are SA rated, which is primarily for car use. Some clubs/regions, don't allow M helmets for DE/Track driving. Most do allow M helments for AX use.
While some can be found now, by the spring, expect to find SA2010 rated helments.. SA2005 helments, for most PCA regions for example, would "expire" in 5 years. An SA2010 would be good for 10 years.
That said, there are lots of variables... Full face or open face? Kevlar, carbon fiber, fiberglass construction. Large eyeports on Full Face for ease of wearing glasses. Shields, no shields. Cooling vents. Removeable liners.

I use this one....very comfortable, and reasonably light...best fit of everything i tried...I was also a size M for a perfect fit...which surprised me since everyone says I have a fat head :-]

Having ridden a motorcycle for years...safety-wise every helmet should be almost equal to others with the same safety rating, such as how well the shell survives impacts at certain angles (and how many impacts). However, the cooling and comfort (inside materials, shape and weight) can be quite different across brands.
As said by others above, requirements for Motorcycle and Car helmets are different. You can use a car rated helmet on a motorcycle but not always the other way around. So if I am going to spend a few hundred bucks...I'd personally rather have the helmet that can be used on the most vehicles and is safest for my noggin'.

I just bought this:
HJC FS-15 SNELL 2010 Full Face Helmet - just over $200 out the door.
It fits tight around my cheeks but am told that's the safest fit. Wow these things are snug!
I fortunately had a good sales person help me out.
AND fortunately a SNELL 2010 - I guess most inventory is still 2005...
