Maybe over 10k in parts. 15k in labor like straightening top, bottom and sides to include stretching. Darn right its totalled. I'd have to question if the surviving light can even be removed. Car probably needs a totally new front end section and straightening. Danger danger Will Robbinson.

Let's get hypothetical:

$15,900 purchase price of car
$12,000 cost to fix said car
$27,900 total cost to purchase car that's been in an accident

I wouldn't do it.

Consider, too, that when you go to sell it, you'll be haunted by a salvage title, a Carfax tracking of the accident, and a guy with a paint meter who will tell you that your car has been subject to a lot of repainting.

My choice would be to take the $27,900 and buy a nice 911 (2000+) that's been well-maintained and hasn't been in an accident. There are many for sale in that price range.

Good luck.

$16k is too much for that car, but I think some of you guys are selling yourselves short. There are deals that pop up occasionally, but it's not easy to find a "good" 996 without issues for much under $20k, not even for an early MK1. I always remind people even a keyless that's not working can cost $400 to remedy w/a new key/programming. It's worth it to buy a car without issues, and those are seldom a "great deal". The old saying is true though, with a Porsche you either pay up front, or later, but you'll pay.

I've owned two MK1 996s and both were in the $20k range... I'm not new to this, I've owned a 944 turbo S that was over $15k when people were saying one could get a clean car for $7k.

and that is part of my point... my car had "history" of 2 accidents... even though it was repaired (BY ME, because the other repairs were sub standard) and was quite good, aligned perfect ect... no issues... $17 with the history was pushing it and it at least looked great !

Some times in situations where a guy is selling a car you think a few thoughts. Is the wife pushing it? Seller might not want to part with the car setting a high price so when he buys fancy rapair parts eh. Can't blame the guy for trying but you can laugh in his face. Sad the car got prammed like it did.

There's a 996 in good shape for 17k.. doesn't make any sense... unless you're the seller.
