Default RMS question....

My car had the engine replaced due to RMS but someone was asking me why they would replace the whole engine for just the RMS issue and why not just do the RMS update... To say the least I couldn't also figure it out except to say that from the documentation on the paperwork from porsche was the space between the engine and tranny were out of spec which caused the leak but I may have missed on my explanation. Can you experts please chime in.... thanks.

the engines had an issue where the crank was off center... If they pulled the seals and took the dial calipier to it and it was out of the center tollerance.. You got a new engine. Thats why!

That is the answer although for a long time Porsche's answer if anything went wrong with the engine was to put in a new engine. They still use this line of logic on many issues that can be corrected. But the out of line crank/carrier is not one that can be solved without a total dis assembly.
