Shorted battery
Had a monsoon like rainfall a few days ago that lasted 10 minutes. Went out a bit later to walk the dogs and noticed the alarm light on the car was not flashing so got the keys to activate it thinking I had previously forgotten to alarm the car. Didn't get any reaction and realized that the battery (3 weeks old) is completely dead.
My guess is that the large volume of rain filled up the area where the pos. cable from the battery connects to the car wiring via the positive stud terminal and created a path for positive to short to ground.
I suspect the drain hole which is located there could not evacuate the water quickly enough.
I've got it on charge now and hopefully can revive the new battery!

Dan,
the drain hole is clean through to outlet. It rained actual "sheets" of water...it was inspiration to start building an ARK!! It seems the drain hole just wasn't big enough in this case.
