Default Help Finding Reputable Motor Rebuilder...

Okay, I just got the flatline on my new/used '00 C2 and need my motor rebuilt. I am in Texas and would live to find a reputable engine builder nearby that can rebuild my engine. If none near by still list the builders. Right now my options are ufomotorsports in CA, and flat6innovations, (after reading i had to scratch motormiester off the list even though over the phone he was very profesional and well knowledged and took the time to e-mail me a few quotes.)

SO WHO ARE THE WELL KNOW (resonably priced) M96 REBUILDERS??

wait, WHAT????

you have had it 2 months and it needs a new motor. SAYS WHO?

We are having a run of bad luck on new owners. At the shop a guy just bought a Boxster and had it towed straight in for repairs, has water in the oil... diagnosing has begun, another with a stuck lifter that caused a bent valve, but these are set to be repaired... not rebuilt, so whats wrong, what symtoms, more details, where is the car... ect

PS avoid motormieser at ALL COSTS !

Stay away from MM. Go directly to Jake at Flat Six. I now have 1k track only miles on the 3.8x engine he built and it has not missed a beat and just keeps getting better.

could be the head(s) or a cracked cylinder wall. No way to know for sure till its opened up. If there are no local rebuilders I would not let "some shop" take my money in hopes they can do it. Jake would be worth calling. I know he has his finger on the pulse of the motors and knows of "good used" ones, where, who to rebuild and can offer ideas that only someone in his position can

call him for sure before you wish you had

Give Mark a call at Prestige Tuning (210) 479-5500. He's on the service road (outside of the loop) at 1604 and Tradesman Ave. next to the paint store. He works on my car and may be able to help you or point you in the right direction for someone local.

did you ask him if he knew of any "used motors" worth buying, sometimes he knows where there is one... or more - if money is an issue, it might be a good way through this, that would have been my route as I spent the $15k I had saved up on a condo that is sucking the lifeblood out of me!

Not sure if Bob Jones rebuilds water-cooled motors but he has an impressive shop from 356's on up.

At least you can talk to him in person; he gave me advice on my build and is easy to talk to.

Anyways, his shop is called Jones Autowerks.

Bob Jones won't touch the water-cooled motors but they seem to know there stuff with the air cooled motors. They only knew of flat6 and ufo because they searched on these forums for a rebuilt motors for a customers boxster with the same issue.
