The spokes fail, the outer part of the rim breaks off - best case scenario, it only bends the fender when it flies out, and the driver is able to keep the vehicle from colliding with anything. Of course, there's some bumper/underbody scraping as the car comes to rest and when it's loaded onto the flat bed. Worst case is a serious impact...
It's quite odd seeing spokes bolted to a hub with no outer part of the rim.
Having said all that, I do think replica rims are just fine for street driving - and I even have my snow tires mounted on a replica set.

In the last 15 years, I've personally seen about 4 or 5 replica wheels fail under high g-force loading. I've seen zero factory wheels fail that way. In my book, that's "too many".

I've broken a few wheels. Really good, heat-treated, made-in-England racing wheels. When you do break a wheel, you'll feel better afterward if it costs $300 to replace instead of $800.
