According to the dealer, they are 19" diameter and 11-rear/8-front wide rims. You sell tires?

Did you look on TireRack or Discount Tire, or negotiate new tires into the purchase.

Hey guys,

Sorry for taking so long to update on this. Things have been a whirlwind here with the car and life in general. So, after many promises from the salesman of replacing tires, fixing the diff, and other things, they decided that they could not let the car go for less than 41k as is, with still bald tires and all. They claim that that puts it "at cost". I called BS, but they wouldn't budge. I think that 41k with bald tires is just not a good deal, so I had to walk. Hopefully everyone else who looks at the car will feel the same way about the price, so that I can come back in a couple months and restate my offer during the winter. I'm a little sad about the way it turned out, but I just didn't want to waste money and I feel that in this economy I could get a better deal. Thanks for all the input and help, and especially to Carey for driving down there to check the car over for me!

Good move! Let that thing rot on the lot.

I don't know. If, as in your earlier post, it's exactly the car you are looking for and plan to keep it for a while then you may want to rethink things a bit. If they are going to fix the diff and not replace the tires then you may want to bite the bullet. OTOH, if you are sure it's going to be there when the weather changes then you can always hold out a bit longer.

My take is that paying a little bit too much, but getting exactly what you want, is better than trying to be too frugal and missing out on an otherwise nice specimen. Besides, you're likely to run through lots of tires if you keep the car for any length of time let alone all the money you'll spend on mods and other things once you have it

Then again, who knows? You may give up on this one and something else that is also exactly what you are looking for could come along at a more attractive price.

Good hunting regardless of which way you decide to go.

I think you are making the right move. These cars will continue to depreciate and the economy is not going to get better soon. At $41K, you should be able to pick up a 996TT this winter....

Usually I would agree with you completely. If this was a silver coupe with a black interior the decision would be an easy one.

But... the unique options on that car change the equation a bit. IIRC this was really what you were looking for. You probably won't find this unique combination again. If your PPI was independent and the only problems were the front diff leak and tires, you might want to reconsider just a bit. What if they just replace the tires and sell it for $41 (as long as you approve the specific tire choice)? In my experience, I'd rather have the diff repair done by someone I knew locally anyhow - particularly considering potential competence and parts/labor warranties. Having said that, I don't know squat about possible differential problems and how it could be worse once they get in there. No easy decision.

Just an idea...

I saw this car in person. The condition was good not excellent. The headlights were yellowing, the tires were shot and the seats showed considerable wear. On the positive side it had sport seats with body color seatbacks, rear center console color matched as well. The paint was a 7.5 of 10. could use some buffing/polishing. The wheels were nice. All this being said 4S's are going for mid thirties.... this one falls in that category in my opinion. If the car was mint and had lower miles maybe it would be worth high thirties but 41? cmon man......... Jeff keep looking dood. You will find the right one soon.

I should clarify that they were willing to sell it at the lowest at 41k with the diff problem and tire problem. They weren't willing to fix either when they had initially told me they would. Also, I brought up the headlight issue and they dodged it. I didn't like the way they tried to belittle these issues and, as I said before, I think this is a poor price for the car. We'll see; hopefully they'll wise up and I'll be able to offer them 37k later this year or so and they'll take the deal *crossing fingers*

The unique options do make it much more tempting for me, but I think the options are quirky enough that they'll have a hard time finding a buyer. Many people don't like the blue interior (especially the seatbelts) so I think it'll still be there in a couple months.
