Did you get a carfax report on the car yet? I don't think that offering 38 to 40 is unreasonable. Jenkins knows that you are interested by completing a PPI so they should consider your offer to be a serious offer.

Suggest you offer on the low side. A fellow Rennlister's friend wants to sell his 997 Cabriolet (2005) with 10,000 miles and the going rate would be around $45K.

Thanks for the price point, Dan! I'll see if I can talk 'em down some. It'll be a little more difficult I suspect since I won't be there in person, but I'll see how low I can make 'em go.

Fred, thanks for your input on the price. I do have some information from ebay (don't know where their source comes from, but here it is:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/04-PO...#ht_5340wt_909

Looks like a lien issue and it was once a leased car, but that is all. I don't really know what to make of the lien... how can I check to make sure this isn't a problem? I'm sure it's clean and the first position debtors are paid off, but in the unlikely scenario they aren't...

The driver side airbag does seem a bit uneven.... just press and feel around the driver side airbag and then do the same to the passenger side to see if what you feel is identical.

Not all things are reported on CarFax....

If all clears, I'd say go for it. It's beautiful!

Alright, I sent Champion Porsche an email asking them about the wheel center and whether it's supposed to be leather. I also asked them to take a look at the airbag to see if there are any mismatches in the dye or if it feels loose. Hopefully they'll help me out!

the lien could just mean the owner has a loan on the car.... if it was just paid off (traded in) the lien might take a few months to show cleared

Alright cool. I'll ask the dealer about it to be sure, but it's probably fine then.

Champion got held up yesterday, so they're going to conduct the inspection sometime today. I'll definitely let you all know what the results are as soon as I get them =)

I spoke with the mechanic who is conducting the inspection yesterday. He said he had taken a quick look at the car so I asked him about the condition. He said that the outside is dirty (just needs a bath) and that the steering wheel and shifter show some signs of wear. You can actually see the wear in the pictures if you know what to look for. I think it should be pretty straightforward to negotiate a lower price based on this (hopefully).

Sorry I haven't updated in a bit. I have been on vacation with little access to internet. So, the PPI looks good. Only issues are a leaky front differential and bald tires. When the dealership found out about these issues, they immediately offered to get them fixed. They are getting the differential seal replaced at a local repair shop that they say is top notch and I figure since it's just a seal, it should be alright to trust that shop. As for the tires, they are going to reduce the price of the car accordingly.

Now the I just need to get financing figured out the rest of the way and negotiate price. Carey was nice enough to go check out the car for me yesterday and he says it looks great with the exception that the headlights are starting to yellow.
