How much do you worry about the IMS issue ?
My brother-in-law has recently experienced big issues with his Cayenne, something almost as serious as the IMS issue. Long story short, he has now spent a lot of money to get it back on the road again.
He was told that the Cayenne model had this issue (it probably has a name too?) and that it was common.
After what he experienced with his Cayenne it made me wonder about the IMS issue - and if/when it will strike our 996 C2 Cab.
The IMS issue is like a ticking time bomb.
How much do other 996 owners worry about the IMS issue ?

Burning Brakes
This is an on-going topic and everyone has out of the ball park answers. Everyone's answers are totally different, just as different on their views on politics....
Here's my answer; It doesn't even cross my mind. if it happens, so be it, and if it doesn't, then cool.
Too many girls out there to think about IMS......

No worries at all. I'm far more worried that I'll flip the car at a track event... or be t-boned in an intersection.
But, I'm an optimist. And if the engine blows up, I still have a whole car to do something with (bigger engine/used engine/EV conversion/etc). If the car gets smooshed, then I just have a stupid engine sitting around.

worry = zero value
you can be pro-active and replace it
passive and ignore it
covered by warranty and forget it
or stay up all night wondering
I think the subject is well covered about what......every two weeks or less.....
I vote we plaster pictures of 1/2 neekid women folk on this thread

Three Wheelin'
Ahhh, the question everyone hates......
It comes down to what type of person you are.
If your a worry wort, you will most likely need to by the LN IMS retrofit or sell the car so you can sleep. Trust me, these people exist and some are on this forum.
To most it is a passing concern of a worst case senario. If a reman 996 engine was $2k, nobody would give a fat rats a** about the IMS/RMS.
Most would hope for the engine to blow so that they could convince the wife they need a shiny new engine.
We all know that a reman costs north of $10k when you include labor.
The best thing you can do is drive your car (often) and enjoy (often). Change the oil, be mindful of the temperature gauge, keep the brakes and tires in good shape and DRIVE!!!(did I mention often?) don't tuck it away for the winter. If it's below freezing outside but the roads are dry you'll see my car tooling around just as I would in the summer, even on summer tires!!!
and if that doesn't work, purchase a powertrain warranty that covers the IMS bearing (make sure that it covers the bearing in the agreement) or get the retrofit.
Honestly, I would buy a 996 with much more confidence than a I would buying a used pepper.

You all have to be creative in slipping in half nekked women into these threads with Mark around. I piggy backed off Ferd's ALMS car pics. It was still "on topic" albeit barely..
