It may be the seal on the cam position sensors.

That's one of the breather lines from the AOS. Mine was leaking a some oil from there when the AOS was bad.

Did you also have extreme oil consumption?

I did the AOS check of taking off the oil cap and the engine seemed to run fine after a second of initial rpm changing with it off, there was a little suction but not to much.

+1 for an AOS tube IIRC -

AOS failures cause differant symtoms on differant cars for some reason. Oil consumtion is one thing it can lead too as well as noises, white smoke, small leaks, poor running or nearly any combo of these.

have you had yours changed? - Its a fun job !

I have heard some shops can do it in ~4 hours (for C2 6 speed) - it took me longer

it can be a good DIY if you have medium skill and some tools. Costs about $100/150 for the AOS.. you might need a new line or two

I had no oil consumption that I could detect and I had very little idle change with the filler cap off. But when I did the 105K maintenance back in Dec, I replaced the AOS as my engine/trans was out. I later opened the AOS with a BMFH and there was a 1/2 inch split in the rubber diaphram. I have pictures I can post.
