I'm heading to Montreal this week for the F1 race and I'm trying to figure out how I'm supposed to be in contact with my family back home in the States. I checked my cell phone carrier (ATT) and it looks like I would need to sign up for a new rate plan that allows me to make calls abroad. I'm only going to be gone for 5 days so I'm not going down the rabbit hole of changing my rate plan.
So........
What do y'all do when traveling abroad?
What are my options?
I also have an AT&T phone (iPhone). A few months ago, I met up with some friends from Canada in AZ. Since their cell phones were Canadian numbers, I just added a Canadian calling plan for about $4.99 a month and then cancelled it about a week later. I think AT&T's offerings may have changed recently but I'm pretty sure you can just add what you need and drop it when you no longer need it.
Also, I added the service over the phone with an AT&T rep. but I was able to cancel it right from the iPhone using the free AT&T app.
