Thanks for the photos and tips. You have improved the look dramatically, too bad the paint didn't match better, I agree, you'll have to paint the other latch as well.Nice job.

sorry ride - I was tired

what I meant to say is "Not Bad!" As in Wow, looks good! (as in the color matching the factory) I am sorry I wrote that wrong and didnt mean to cause any bad feelings or make you feel as if it was a bad job.. I think it looks great

at one point I thought about making new handles and offering them for sale - there are many aluminum items like pedals and foot rests, but no one seems to have gone thru the effort to make some cool hood/trunk pulls... I lost interest based on complexity and time but still think if someone made some clool looking replacements they would sell... the only other option it factory new or to do as you have done....

anyhow
LOOKIN' GOOD !!

I re-did mine in place, masked, taped, newspaper everywhere. I found out you CANNOT clear coat them. The aluminum when applied looked a near perfect match to the factory aluminum color, I sprayed on the clear and the color turned gray. I wiped them off with acetone got all the paint off and just sprayed with a few light coats of aluminum paint. They look really good and if I didn't know better I'd think they came that way. Moral of the story, no clear coat.

Did you have any overspray issues?

This is my 996 that was done with the handles in place. Everything was covered with newspaper and making tape.

And here is the result.

I rest my case!

Interesting... didn't know there were actual levers on the older models. My '04 has two little switches to pop open the frunk and the trunk.
