Default wheel rim gouge and tire rim protector cut

Nasty curb accident - I cut a piece of the rim protector - it looks deep, but then again it's just the raised rubber - against a curb, and of course I also have curb rash now.

I am going to guess the tire's still ok to drive on.

What about the wheel? What's the best way to repair the curb rash?
I am in the Boston area...

Thanks!

ok no shake on the highway and i don't see any side wall bubbling - and no air loss, but the cut looks deep - take a look..but appears cosmetic. thank god for these rim protector things.

is this rim repairable?

looks pretty superficial. The tire should be fine, the rim will be filed, filled, sanded and spot painted. A fun DIY project or $100-$150 from a wheel repair service, my guess.

I recall seeing an Excellence article that had an easy fix for curbed wheels, or wheels needing a repaint.

Try 300 grit sand paper then go up to 600. Keep your motions to a minimum so you dont do additional damage. Once you have smoothed out the gouge, polish with good aluminum polish.

I have done this several times and while it wont completely disappear, it will be much less noticeable. Use some crazy glue to reattach the tire chunk after you work the rim. As long as just the rim protector was damaged, the tire should be fine.
