We've updated our reliability stats for the 911 to include owner experiences through June 30, 2014 (making them about 14 months ahead of some others).

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2003 911: 90, moderate, very small sample size
2002 911: 51, low
2001 911: 75, low, very small sample size
1999 911: 12, low, very small sample size

Like most sports cars, these average about half as many miles as the typical car per year.

Next updates in November and in February. The more owners participate, the more comprehensive and precise these will be.

We've updated our reliability stats for the 911 to include owner experiences through September 30, 2014.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2003 911: 84, moderate, very small sample size
2002 911: 72, low
2001 911: 79, low, very small sample size

Additional participants always helpful (I'd love to be able to drop the disclaimers and cover more model years).

I want to participate but the survey form but it is very convoluted and opaque. Can't you just have a blank page and each owner puts down their service history?

Sorry for the trouble. Are you referring to the form for the reliability survey, or the one for repair histories (for reporting repairs before you joined)?

The trouble with a blank form for the main survey would be:

1. Even if people entered sufficiently complete information, I'd never have the time to convert about 2,500 such responses each month to data that could be analyzed.

2. Even with the current form for the reliability survey, many people provide incorrect information. I use the redundancies built into the form to correct most problems without having to recontact the member. Many of the questions help determine whether or not the reported problem should count for the purpose of these stats (exclude problems caused by previous work on the car, etc.). People often won't remember to mention things like this--or even whether a repair was attempted, or successful--with a single open-ended question.

If you're referring to the repair history form, it does need to be revised, and we're currently working on a solution that will integrate it into the main survey. Just having two forms can be very confusing.

We've updated our reliability stats for the 911 to include owner experiences through the end of 2014.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2004 911: 40, low, very small sample size
2003 911: 67, low, very small sample size
2002 911: 66, low
2001 911: 61, low, very small sample size

We'll have further updates in May and in August. The more owners participate, the more comprehensive and precise these will be.

So, how have these cars been doing lately?

Our reliability stats for the 911 now include owner experiences through March 31, 2015. (Others are nearly a year behind.)

In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year ("low" is best):

2004 911: 40, low, small sample size
2003 911: 33, low, very small sample size
2002 911: 77, low
2001 911: 45, low, very small sample size
2000 911: 95, moderate, very small sample size

Next updates in August and November. Additional participants very much needed to provide precise stats for all but the 2002. (Which would also benefit from additional participants.)

Our reliability stats for the 911 now cover the year ending June 30, 2015. (Others are over a year behind, and so report how these cars were doing when a year younger.)

Repair trips per 100 cars:

2004 911: 52, low, small sample size
2003 911: 10, low, very small sample size--stat too low to be accurate
2002 911: 81, low
2001 911: 45, low, very small sample size
2000 911: 109, moderate, very small sample size

As always, additional participants would be very helpful. With larger sample sizes there would likely be smaller differences from model year to model year, but the 2001 through 2004 would likely still be better than the average car of this age.

Ok, I admit, I haven't read the entire 17 pages

How is 81 repair trips per 100 cars low or even 52 trips per 100?

It's low compared to other cars of the same age.

These are now fairly old cars, and they tend to be driven less and maintained more thoroughly than the average 12-16 year-old car. A large percentage are not daily drivers. In the past I've noted this, and should have this time. The relative comparison isn't entirely a fair one.

2003 911: 12, low, very small sample size
2002 911: 104, moderate
2001 911: 62, low, very small sample size

We've updated our reliability stats for the 911 to include owner experiences through the end of 2015, about eight months ahead of other sources. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year--lower is better:

2004 911: 32, low, very small sample size
2003 911: 67, low, very small sample size
2002 911: 105, moderate
2001 911: 67, low, small sample size

No stat, or a small sample size? Then we especially need more owners involved for that model year.
