welcome to RL

there is a hole in the crank pully with a mark... line it up with the pin hole in the block... to be sure you are on TDC one and not TDC 4 you have to remove the cam seal on the end of the cam on bank 1-3

(is there a reason you care if it is on TDC 1 or 4 ?)

the ONLY way to know is to pull the cam plug on the exhaust cam on the 1-3 bank and IIRC the "slot" should be horizontal

back to my original Q.... what make you need TDC1 and not just TDC (1 or 4)

marks? IIRC there is are several holes in the pulley on the 3.6 and they are labeled... ??? (this is from observation, not first hand doing so I might be off)

As the cans turn at 1/2 of the speed of the crank there is no way to tell from the marks on the puppy whether you are at TDC for 1 or 4 without looking at the end of a cam. The standard way is to look. At the drive end of the 1-3 exhaust cam. The groove should be toward the outside of the engine for 1 to be at TDC with the pulley set for TDC. If you are familier with the marks/Grooves on the end of the intake cam, (this is for a 3.4 engine) the grooves should be straight up and down, with the narrow side toward the outside of the engine.

Aircraft Spruce sells a neat little gizmo that is foolproof for determining TDC. It will whistle when #1 is on the compression stroke. This is fairly easy to determine by turning the engine with a ratchet with all plugs removed. I first saw this used at the motor barn at the local FBO many years ago.
