After many years of wanting one, I finally bought myself a Porsche. I'm now the second owner of a '99 Carrera 4 that had 14,174 miles on it when I picked it up. Pics to avoid forum wrath:

Great car! The aero looks fantastic and with such low miles, it is like a new car. You will enjoy the tiptronic. My previous 996 was a 99 with a tiptronic. While I enjoy my current car with a 6-speed, every time I am in heavy traffic, I miss the tip. Congratulations and welcome aboard.

Thanks everyone! It still smells new. There are 29 different option codes on the build sticker and I can honestly say I'd never seen this color (Mirage Metallic) until I encountered this car.
I've read the horror stories about '99s and low miles, but I'll take the chance. A local independent Porsche mechanic (and PCA racer) checked the car over completely and only came back with recommendations for an oil change and a brake fluid flush. I gave him the go-ahead to do more, but he said all of the other filters and fluids look brand new.
This won't be my daily driver, but I'm having too much fun right now to drive another car.

Enjoy putting some miles on that thing. Take it up to 50k miles and it'll still have plenty of value.

The original MSRP of this car was $96,500.
I hate to discuss the amount I paid, because there will inevitably be someone to pipe in about how I paid too much and that I could have gotten another one much cheaper, etc... Plus, there was a trade involved, so actual price is subject to interpretation. That being said, the dealer (Allen Akin of Encore Motors in Macon, GA - a great guy) initially listed the asking price at $32,500 and I paid less than that.

A dealer selling a well optioned cab or coupe knows that the car will sell itself if it's in excellent condition. If it has any details that might give away problems, an educated buyer will not come near it.
Enjoy the car, maintain it and it'll give you plenty of enjoyment. Read up on certain issues these cars tend to develop so nothing comes as a surprise.
