Default 996 3.4 Cats on a 3.6 Engine any issues

My 3.6 engine (2003 996 Targa - nope no warranty) blew recently with complete engine failure with a crack in the block around 12 inches long. Apparently not the IM Shaft as originally thought.

Anyway new engine going in and while installing the new engine we discovered the coolant washed out during the blow up destroyed the cat on the passenger side.

I can’t find a used 3.6 cat (new around $1800) but found a used 3.4 cat from a friend. Is there any reason anyone can think of not to use the 3.4 CAT on the 3.6 exhaust.

They should be interchangeable. I have one for sale however from my 3.6 if you feel more comfortable....

Be sure that you check the O2 sensor locations. Your wires might not be long enough to reach.

A 12 inch long crack? Jeeze. Is there any indication as to the cause of the crack? did you hit something?

Is the crack through one of the cylinders?

Nope not a thing hit, a well maintained engine and car, I'll be posting the video shortly and you can see it just going into a corner , a slow one at that, My hand is already out, the clutch is in as I hoped to coast to the pits and then boom, there she goes.

The sensor locations are different on the 3.4l versus the 3.6l and I believe will cause CEL issues..

Leaving some on the table on most of your track-outs, but lookin good there Sean. You must have had some good instructors. Seriously, that was a pretty good looking lap right up until... Look forward to seeing you back out there in a couple of weeks.
