Another garage door opener hack wi a Home Link
I wanted to be able to open more then one door from my 2003 996 cab so I did this.
1. I went to the scrap yard and bought a set of sun visors that had a HomeLink in one. I got a black cloth set from a 2002 Lincoln for $30 they were stained.
2. Pull the HomeLink out of the sun visor. Mine was ~2 ¾” x 2” x ½”. HomeLinks run on 12 V from the car so no batteries to change.
3. Snap off one of the side covers on the center console. I used the passenger’s side because it was easier for me to reach from the driver’s seat.
4. Trim the plastic ribs on the console frame to fit the HomeLink, it fit like it was molded for it.
5. Drill 5 holes in the side cover to match the buttons and mounting posts in the HomeLink bezel. My HomeLink buttons were a little too short to reach the activator buttons on the HomeLink PC board so I super glued Pentel mechanical pencil erasers to the button ends. They were the right diameter and I just trimmed them to length.
6. Pulled the HomeLink wires through one of the holes in the console frame and hook them up to a connector that was floating around behind the CD holder insert. (Phone?)
7. Mount the HomeLink to the side cover using the bezel. That and some snaps were how it was mounted in the visor. I also used some double sided foam tape as a buffer and to attach it to the console frame.
Snapped it all together and it works well. I get about 4 car lengths when I pull in front wards and 6+ when I back in.
I think that if I had a coupe I could have mounted it in the visor and pulled the power from the mirror lights.
Or mounted it and soldered wires onto the PC board switches and run 2 doors from a Targa switch.

Dell your recent mod posted in the Turbo section INSPIRED me.
I was thinking I could do it with two Targa switches use one for two doors and the other for the third. With all of the blanks on the dash I could have used 4 of them!
