Default Porsche 996 Carrera 1999 FIXER.- $12000 (Sacramento)

Browsing on CL and ran across this car. Sounds like an easy fix, but it has a salvage title. Looks like it has sport front seats. I have no affiliation.

May be more to it than that. Why would not the seller do the cheap fix and turn a higher profit? After all he most likely already has the parts, bolt them on, detail the car and turn a much higher profit. Businesses generally do what's best for them economically. Interested? better check the coolant for oil.

That's what I was thinking, it appears to be such an easy fix.......Why doesn't he just fix it himself? It would definitely appeal to more potential buyers when fixed. IMHO, I think the price is too high. After is all said and done with the repairs, you will probably be into this car around $15-$16K?? Ones with clean titles, ready to drive and with a service history can be found for around that price range.

Looks like sport seats....

Problem is the "easy fix" will put you back up to $20k total investment.

Track car candidate maybe?

if you do the work yourself!

IMO the damage is over $10k at a good Porsche shop and that doesnt count what you cannot see until she is opened up

I think 8k would be more like it. With salvage title it's only worth 12 if it was fixed

Based on the pics there is frame damage (deciding factor for salvage title) and the reason that the guy didn't slap on some panels and sell it. If it didn't have the salvage title it could be interesting, but trying to sell salvage cars - you run into brick walls with banks and insurance companies.

I agree but someone will buy it. There was a local salvage FS -'99 w/33k, front body damage, toasted engine in a box in pieces, salvage title. Sold on eBay for $12k. There is one born every minute.

Yes, but who cares if you just want to build a track car, ah someday, retirement is only like 80 years away.

I emailed the seller yesterday, that car has 150,000 miles on it. If it was a good runner its worth south of $15k w/o a salvage title. Probabably an $8k car as is, $12k fixed. better to part it out. I saw plenty of 120,000 mile cars right around $15k w/o salvage titles and 85k miles cars at $19k.

Typically a salvage title reduces the value on vehicles around 30%, in a good economy. It could be more on exotics and performance vehicles. This is excluding any damage and cost of repairs which will reduce it further.
