Just a little perspective, these numbers are for new cars. Porsche in this group probably makes less new cars than probably most of not all of the car manufacturers shown. Thye have the time and the capability of making sure the cars are almost perfect when leaving the factory. It is only a matter of time when the heated seats fail, the ECU unit fails, the oil pressure sender fails, tha side running cable in the convertible top snaps, the convertible top locking unit fails, 2 ignition key incompatability issues, numerous radio malfunction (will not turn on)..all of this happening to my 04 C4S in the last 4 years with 35K miles on car). I have a Ford 500 for a company car and it has NEVER been in the shop for anything in 60,000 and now need tires and brakes, but getting a new Ford Taurus to replace it. Yes a $100K car SHOULD NOT have these problems, and this does not even count in the anxiety of the RMS and IMS issues, which if fail, can cost upwards of $15K to fix, with NO recourse from the manufacturer who hides his head in the sand and HOPES nobody sees him. Pretty Pathetic!

Jim, sounds to me like you've been pretty unlucky and I'm sorry to hear that.

My '99 has had nothing but tires and brakes since new. Nothing has failed at all and I have more miles on my car than you do yours. In any population there are going to be cars that run like a dream, some that run like a nightmare and most will fall in the middle. I would say that you car appears to have been outside the average.

If you spend your life in fear over the things that MIGHT happen, then you're going to lead a pretty miserable life. If the issues that you mention are a problem for you, then it's time to get another car.

Sorry for your troubles, Jim, and I'd be pissed off too. But it also needs to be said that never in the history of the mass produced automobile have price and reliability risen in proportion to one another. Paying a hundred grand for a car was never a guarantee against problems. Usually, it was a guarantee of the opposite kind. Cars produced in small volumes have always been a pain in the ***. Porsche kind of made life hard for itself by beating those odds for many years, but on its worst day it's still no worse than what I would consider its peers.

I don't mean to sound like a socialist, but I prefer living in a world where a rich man's toy is expensive to maintain and a working bloke's minivan is as reliable as a toaster.
