Radar detector
I was just wondering if anyone has a radar detector and how it might be mounted. I dont want to do the built in type, nor do I want to stick it to my leather dash. Do they make a rear view mirror type mount, or anyone using the suction cup bracket?

If you do a search for "V1" "valentine" and/or "hardwire" you should come up with a few threads that help you out.
Here is my old write-up

I use the Passport 8500 and just stick with the suction cup mount - I can swap back and forth between cars this way.
Using this mount is one of the very few DIY installations I can do:
1. Lick cups.
2. Stick on windshield.

Decided to mount it to windshield using the suction cups mount. Works just fine, out of the way, reliable mount. As safety precaution I wrap power cord around rear view mirror post couple of times so if cups lose grip V1 doesn't fall. Once or twice in the years -- mainly in real cold weather -- have come out to car to find unit hanging by power cord.
Been pulled over maybe 12 - 15 times -- sometimes just cause I'm driving real late at night and cops pull over any car for possible DUI check -- and have been ticketed 4 times. (Once in car without V1.) Only one officer -- AZ state police officer -- even mentioned the unit. They don't care is my experience. Fought all tickets and only one not dismissed. This one reduced down to $100 fine and 2 points.
V1 doesn't make your car invisible to radar and is not a license to speed at will whenever.
Remember too, cops mostly like cars and notice the good looking ones (or the really ratty ones) and what they notice they'll pull over.
But I like it there to give me situational awareness so when I'm pulled over I can make a note (sometimes writing the info down on a piece of paper) the situation which helps when I challenge the ticket. Noting for instance traffic density, geography, light and weather condtions, etc.
If used properly it can make you a more aware driver and then you are a better driver and a safer driver.
Sincerely,
Macster.

Hi! As with quite a few others, I use a suction cup mount with my V1 and then tap into the wires for the rear view mirror. It's pretty unobtrusive.
The fact that it uses a phone cord is nice, as about once a year (at least in a MN winter) the cups loose suction, but the phone cord easily supports unit until I put it back on.

I use a sun visor clip. No tell-tale suction cup mount (or suction cup marks) to indicate to a potential intruder that there's a radar detector in the car.
When I park anywhere that I think it's advisable to hide the unit, I simply remove it from the visor and no one's the wiser. This is also a principal advantage of having a cordless detector.

V1 hardwired with the remove display on top of the column and unit wired to the passenger side visor mirror. I use the visor clip so it is easy to move between cars.

I use a Passport 9500ix, suction cup mounted to the windshield at present, but I hate having to remove it every single time I park to put up the sunshade. I'm going to design a rearview mirror mount and hardwire it in (the mirror mounts you can buy are so expensive! I've got access to a mill and lathe, so it should work and look good enough).
