I just took a flathead screwdriver and expanded the metal contacts that touch the inside of the cigarette lighter. Works like a charm, and it's free.

IIRC, it's just the 99-01 cars that have this problem. The part was "updated" during the 02 facelift. My GT3 and Turbo have zero problems with the cig plug but my pre facelift cab needed the upgraded lighter socket. I did a write up over on Renntech some time back.

I just tinned with solder the ground connections on the adapter plug of the gps.

But for those who cant solder just gently re shape with long nose pliers.

There used to be some spacer that fit in there, have never been able to find one though. For now, my Garmin and Valentine 1 work fine. The connection can wobble though.

I just removed my socket today as it wasn't working. I checked and I do have 12v coming from the plug, so I guess I need a new socket. I see it's nla from suncoast. Is it just a 2002 and up cigarette lighter I need? I see them for sale on eBay.

Mike, it could be just the fuse...check that before you buy/repair.

It wasn't the fuse. I have already removed (and destroyed). The old socket. I kind of need a replacement. In the worst case I'll buyba replacement oversized one since it's slightly better than a non functional one.
