Default Nees some Ideaers... Cassette tape holdes.

I am a little in shock that my 99 has a cassette player in it. It also has the CD changer... But the wasted space on the dash below the radio is silly. It will never get used to hold tapes... Anyone have any neat things they did with this area? Its a little small for a gps.. The car has enough gauges for what I use the car for. A fuel pressure and vaccume gauge would be nice if someone made one that looked stock. Id buy that for a $1

I have the same setup in my 2002, though with the factory Bose system. It sounds great, but is just dated in terms of functionality.

Seems like Porsche decided to put the cassette player version of the 220 head unit (and the cassette holders) in cars with the CD changer. If you remember back to the 'turn of the century,' the iPod was not quite yet a reality and early MP3 players were mostly junk. And despite the CD being around since the mid-1980s, cassettes were still fairly common. So Porsche's decision on this setup actually sort of made sense... then. Now of course it is just in the way.

I would be interested in other options as well. My current plan is to just replace the cassette holder with more storage space and then eventually do a complete system change that gives me iPod interface, bluetooth, hands-free, nav, etc. But I also want to ensure that whatever I go to complements the factory Bose system.

I replaced the head unit with something that has iPod connectivity, and then did the console delete. I absolutely love it. When you take out that front console, you realize how 'stuck on' it looks, especially if it's just being used for storage.

Show us a picture.
I might be able to tell you how to mod it for free.

For example, I gutted my CD holder and turned it into a cell phone cubby. Very easy.
