While you CPO will run out, the reman engine warrenty will run for two years from installation. Not that a 996TT would not be fun, however .

Jon, I am not so sure that's how it works. What I understand it to be is this:

If teh owner pays for a reman engine, he gets a two year warranty from the date of engine install. However, if Porsche pays for the reman engine under the CPO warranty, the warranty on the engine expires with the CPO warranty, even if that is only a day, or a week, or a month after the engine install.

I could be wrong, but I have read that version on RL on more than one occasion.

I really love my car, but everytime I see a new blown engine in our spanish forum (soloporsche.com), I have more and more fear...

In soloporsche we have lots of user with "minor issues".

I'm decided to reinforce my engine.

I went to my porsche specialist yesterday to get the coolant changed (I do it every 2 years)
My mechanic advise me to upgrade the IMS, but he wants to change several parts as chain tensioners, chains, etc...

I couln't trust in any M96 reman engine till I'd upgrade my motor.

Hmm, interesting. Wonder if there are any Porsche service managers on the site to confirm?

For me hopefully a moot point since I am almost a year into the reman engine and it's been running great. At the time, the service manager told me it had a two year warranty, but she might have been mistaken.

(For anyone interested, mine was replaced because of high oil consumption. I documented it well, and upon inspection they found badly scored cylinder walls. Interesting that it still had very good compression and leak-down tests.)

You are correct. I pushed for a 2 year extended warranty on the reman. No dice. It's the Bic pen argument I mentioned earlier. If you pay for the engine you get the 2 year warranty. If they pay, no extended warranty.

I'm still very concerned about whether the updates to the reman engines have fixed the problem. I explored this with the PCA 996 tech advisor who said that he had heard of no problems with the reman M96 ( non TT or GT3 ) engines. Pipe in here any time Jake if you have any experiences to share.

I've heard of a reman grenading because of bad IMS from somebody @ porsche... but they said its very rare and I don't know what year that reman was produced ... remans from later years 2006 and beyond are probably more "updated".. the early remans would have basic stuff replace to ensure functionality but a lot of parts use to be transferred over... today's remans are out of the box and in your car...

it still doesn't do anything for the basic design problems of the m96 under high g cornering and oil starvation..
