996 Horror Story- A Hard Lesson Learned and Advice Needed

"What we have deduced is that the CEL is being caused by a violent vibration that is apparent at 3,000 RPM or above, and such vibration will cause misfire codes in4rearward most coils. If the car is driven at little load and rpms are sustained at 3,000 rpm the CEL will flash, even while sitting still believe it or not."
Just a thought based on my own experience with my 04 C2. Variocam is initiated over 3,000 rpm (3200rpm for mine). On my car, and I understand it is very rare for this to happen on non-tiptronic cars, a lifter was stuck on the high side for the vario-cam. I do recall that when the dealer first started the car it ran smoothly until they gradually increased the rpm's to variocam territory, that was their first clue. Luckily everything was covered under CPO - that was 20k miles ago and all is still perfectly fine. I had 45K miles on the clock when it happened. I believe your CEL continues to flash because the mis-fire codes have been detected.
I hope it works out for you.

I also think court is the way to go with this. Photo and document all repairs. Get written testimony from the techs doing the repair. I also feel like this is a great fraud case, since he knowingly marked it private sale to circumvent the PA laws

I think the question was rellevent... the guy asked "what ever happened?"
its not THAT old...not like a 6 year old "for sale" thread asking if the OP "still has it"

Considering the OP has a total of 9 posts (almost all form this thread) and hasn't posted in over a year, I would have to say that posting to the thread asking the OP what happened isn't exactly the best way to go about it. But, it seems lately that it is people that don't visit the site often that are reviving old threads with no rationale or at least an explanation why they are bringing a thread back from the dead. Most times when somebody pulls a deep-6'd thread from the abyss, it is usually accompanied with something like "I realize this thread is way old but I developed a very similar problem and was hoping the OP could shed some light on it". Even then, a new thread would be better, no?

Marc, totally agree. It has actually stopped me from posting to a thread realizing how old it was. Sometimes when searching you totally forget to look at the date. This would alleviate that. There are absolutely some times when posting to a years old thread is relevant. This would help with that.

true Dell...
but the basic search results are not organized by date by default, sometimes that is what happens. I notice when i do a basic search i have to be mindfull of the dates, not everyone knows that....I blame management

Some people have no ETHICS no Morals...what a Bastard that guy is!
Horrible, i had a similar experience, was looking for a 911 for over a month, found one on Craigslist in LA, called seller, assured me, i said screw it, i drove to airport, flew to LA from Arizona, took a cab to meet him & noticed sound in engine, called independent Porsche Shop, it was too late for PPi, almost 5pm, but they agreed to at least look at it, the shop owner told me car has issues, and owner of the car seemed shady & kept changing his story so i walked, Thank God! 2 weeks later, found "THE ONE" in San Fran & thank God till now no issues, i love it, and feel it was meant for me!
Good Luck man..
ps: your seriously a talented writer, you kept it interesting with a sense of humor..

With regards old threads....chill out man.
Very occasionally an old thread is revived, usually legitimately. Don't go locking down every thread just because once or twice per year someone accidentally revives an old thread that deserves to be dead.
Man oh man....there's a back button right there at the top corner of your browser. If the date on the thread is too old for your liking then just click that little arrow thing.
Problem solved.
