Yes, my Honda also has a f#$%ing sunroof, but only because I didn't have a choice. However, this one has NEVER been opened by me in 19 months of ownership.

As I said earlier, a sunroof is "a useless pain in the *** on any car!"

OK - keep on task guys. I lifted the following procedure for teaching the sunroof whose boss (ie training it):

Teaching lifting/sliding roof drive
1. With the ignition switched on, press the lift button and move the lifting/sliding roof drive to the "raised"
limit position.
2. Press lift button again and keep depressed. After around 10 seconds, a complete cycle takes place from
the raised limit position to the positions "lower open close". Teaching of the characteristics has been
completed after this process.
Note: The lift button must not be released during the entire process. In the event of a restart, the
lifting/sliding roof must always be moved to the limit position first.
3. If the lifting/sliding roof drive should move back in Item 1, then the closing force limitation function has
responded (lifting/sliding force drive was taught). The open button must be re−taught in this case.
Teaching lifting/sliding roof drive
1 Press the open button until the sliding roof stops. Then release the button. Press the open button
again until the lifting/sliding roof drive stops again. Then release the button.
2 Press the open button again and keep depressed. The entire process takes place after approx. 10 seconds:
"close − lift − lower − open − close.".

I will take some snaps when I eventually do the lube job.

Glad it worked. I forgot about this post entirely and realize now I never posted the lube pics.

Sorry 'bout that. I did lube it and it does work perfectly now.

Yes, good point. I took my sunroof completely apart but in the end some white moly lube in the rails is all it took.

I was curious about how that was lasting Jasper. I've got the same problem.... I just don't use mine so I guess it's not really broken or a problem

So.......its been three years but thought I'd ask as this thread helped me train my sunroof to sit, stay, etc.
HOWEVER>.......If its open its LOUD AS A FREIGHT TRAIN with the wind buffeting. So I occasionally just tilt it, but don't know if thats the only good I'll ever get out of the electronic hole in my 996s roof?
Thoughts?

Agree about the noise. I only open it to transport long skinny things like 2x4's, boat booms and an occasional maypole.

My sunroof is also incredibly loud. I've never been a sunroof lover anyway.

In fact my sunroof hasn't worked right for years now, and I'm not alone. There's another thread or two on RL, or maybe Pelican, and we've all got the same problem.

To open the roof I first have to push the switch forward to the closed position, and that tilts up the back of the roof. Then I push the switch forward again, which tilts down the back of the roof. Then finally I can push the switch backward and the roof will open automatically as it should (most of the time).

To close the roof I have to push and hold the switch in the forward position (it won't close automatically) and it closes all the way and then the back tilts up. Then I have to let go of the switch and push it forward again until the back tilts down.

I like my sunroof - always have. It's a pain, but I've gotten used to it. From what I understand there is no known fix - but I'm all ears if someone here has fixed this.

Fix = replace motor
Using as you described = free

I prefer the latter going on year 2

I've been living with this problem for years too and have to do the same as you Jasper - but I'm used to it. As for the noise, I find if you open it about 4" shy of the end, it's way quieter.
