Default Weird LCD Display Effect

This afternoon I got a letter in the mail from my insurance company asking me to provide them with some mileage information. So I got in the car to get the reading from the odometer and found a constellation-like effect on all three LCD readouts.

Now, except for yesterday and today it's been real cold here lately. The car has not run and the screens have not been turned on since since putting it away in mid-November. For what it's worth, it has been on a battery maintainer the entire time.

Is this cause for concern (read: impending failure)? Do those of you that drive your cars in winter/cold temps get this effect?

It's slightly harder to see the further away you get

jordan,

You have the "Star Wars" option..... It displays the view just before the jump into Hyper-drive!

I would bet either when it warms up or leave it on for a few min it clears up. Maybe condensation on the inside that froze?

Maybe your car has 'LSD'.

I had a problem similiar, The dials all went crazy and the tach did not register. The car (04C4S) was still under CPO and took it to the "stealer". Picked up the car and the "service" manager told me that they had to reprogram the ECU at a cost of $150, which was NOT covered by CPO. Told by "stealer" that if they had to replace the ECU it would be covered, but reprogramming is not covered. Try disconnecting the battery, which may reprogram the ECU when the power is reapplied. But if your car is an older 996 you will need a radio code.

Come spring, if the problem persists (or if the tach doesn't work), I'll try disconnecting the battery or maybe see about having the ECU reprogrammed. Thanks for the insight. Sorry to hear about your experience.

The Police wrote a whole album about it: "Ghost in the Machine".

Weird that the MPH display doesn't show this.

Believe me, I'm with you guys on the mileage thing. I bought it in April with 10,1xx miles! So it's not like haven't been trying to put some miles on; a little over 4k in about seven months or so.
