Look under the carpet for signs of it being in a flood if it is water in the LCD.

Ask a dealer what they might know. Not that you have to believe bring it in for replacement if they say so. Might just be a flukish thing. You know, like electric goose bumps hehehe.

If you have an after market stereo amp installed maybe try rerouting some wires. Manual says no more than 5 watts rf runs and that considered to be in a shielded coax so I'd figure some of their stuff is touchy to interference.

I'd wait until the temps warm up before trying any fix (unless your car is under warranty and its clock is ticking). I've heard the LCD can be effected by the cold, and in extreeme cases the cells can rupture. I've seen several 986/996 LCDs with a snowflake or crescent shaped flaw that I assume is the result of the cells "bleeding" into each other.

It could also be effected by an electrical current gremlin from lack of use while in storage and on a battery tender. Either way I still take a wait and see approach until you're put it back into normal service and see if it clears up on its own.

I'm guessing it's been brought about by the cold and non-use. Liquid crystal can do strange things sometimes, although I've never seen a speckle pattern like that before (temps usually affect the contrast, not bleeding or spotting of the LC). Let it warm up and run it for a bit and see what happens.

Thanks for your comments/suggestions, guys. I'm going to wait until I pull the car out in the spring before doing anything about it.

Jon - I like your style, but I think it would be better suited to the digital speed readout.
