Default Boxster Spyder Love it, hate it?

Boxster Spyder

2811lbs
320hp
950rpm higher on the redline than a Boxster S

Personally I think it sounds great. And would be fun around these roads where I live.

'Hate' is a bit of a strong word, I'm more like 'meh...'

Lighter weight, and more power, yes, that's good, but between this and the 997 duck tail version, I think Porsche is turning up the marketing effort; not much else.

Its a Boxster with a fancy tonneau cover.

I'm going "meh" as well on this, and I really like Boxsters!

They need to go ahead and make that rear decklid standard, because damn that is a beautiful car. I like the top as well, very slick if not really functional.

+1.... the top is clever, making it lighter. Not a daily driver for sure!

Oh sure it can be daily driven...unless you work in the ghetto, then no.

I don't hate it, but I'm definitely not a fan. Hmmm lemmeee see...

AC, radio and cupholders removed = bad
No roof = bad

Strap for doorhandles = I can live with that. Although the weight savings may be minimal

Lighter seats, windows, wheels = good
Aluminum doors and rear deck = good
10 more hp = good

$3000 more for the above and the removal of the practicality? I think not.

If they charged an additional $3000 as an option for the Boxster S for 10 hp, lighter seats, windows, wheels, aluminum doors and rear deck... THEN that would be awesome!

I like all the simple, light weight bits, but not so much the styling. Just strip out a standard boxster and be done with it.

Ha! That'll leave a mark.

But just imagine if they introduced a new 2,811 lbs version of the 997.2 priced only $3k higher than normal? Getting an allocation would be bloodsport... RL'ers would maim eachother. Homes would be mortgaged. Children would be sold. No?

More info here http://jalopnik.com/5417593/porsche-...lessly-into-la

Article quotes that the Spyder is 10lb heaver than original 986.

3 questions:
1. Why is it still heavier than the original original 986? (alot of items deleted or lightened on the Spyder)
2. So would a '97 986 with a transplant a 3.4 or 3.6 engine, be just as fast?
3. How about a stripped S?

I agree. Put in lighter seats, remove the AC, radio, top, lighter wheels etc., and retain the original styling(behind the seats)
